Free Auction!

We got given a bunch of photo kit and some good folks in the club offered to give away stuff they don't use. Nothing is tested, by the way, but may be assumed to be functional.

Rather than a 'first come, first served' approach, which can lead to 'not fair' complaints, we decided to use a 'free auction' process, as follows.

The process is as follows:

  • Items are numbered and photographed. A list of these will be sent out to members.
  • Members reply with a list of things they want in priority order.
    • Please list these items you want in order of priority to you. You are more likely to get higher priority items. Please list the number and description. Also add a letter to each item, A, B, C, etc. A is high priority.
    • Email Dave with your request. Format is not fussy. Remember to include item number, description and priority letter. If a letter is omitted or repeated, sequence will used to assume priority.
    • You can request as many items as you like. No limit. Priority order is still important.
    • Email Dave if you want to come out to see items.
  • The rules for allocating items are as follows:
    • If only one person wants an item, then they get it, no matter their priority.
    • First competition round:
      • All remaining first priority requests are examined.
      • If only one person wants it, they get it.
      • If three people have given top priority to a single item, a 'dice' is rolled to give each an equal chance of getting it.
      • If a person gets an item, they are no longer considered until everyone else has got something they want.
    • Next competition round:
      • All remaining second priority requests are examined.
      • If only one person is eligible and wants it, they get it.
      • If three people have given top priority to a single item, a 'dice' is rolled to give each an equal chance of getting it.
      • If a person gets an item, they are no longer considered until everyone else has got something they want.
    • The process is repeated until all items are allocated.
    • Any remaining items will be offered first-come, first-served.
    • Anything nobody wants will likely be binned.

Any issues, the committee will have the last word.
